Broadcast between 19th April 1955 and 5th July 1955, this series comprised 12 episodes of which just 5 survive. The series was broadcast on Tuesday's at 2130 (except no. 2 at 2000) with a Sunday repeat at 1500 (except No.10, which was replaced by a further repeat of No. 7 because of an unfortunate topical reference).

Harry Secombe and Bill leave for a holiday in Southend but they get on the wrong train and end up in Paris where they first meet Andree.

The cast play the parts in the story of ‘Iggins, a cook, who becomes a well respected chef but subsequently fails and loses everything due to drink. It is likely that the episode was inspired by the 1954 film ‘The Country Girl’. Released in the UK in March 1955 and starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and William Holden, the film tells the story of an alcoholic actor who has lost everything to drink and is given one last chance to relaunch his career

This episode is missing from the archives despite being repeated in it’s own Sunday slot. In addition, it was also repeated in the Sunday slot in place of episode 10 due to a topical reference in that show (see below). It also received a further repeat in September of the same year.
This epsiode was recreated for the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe featuring Kevin R McNally as Tony Hancock and was re-recorded by the BBC on 13th January 2019 in the fourth series of The Missing Hancocks. Featuring Kevin R McNally as Tony Hancock, the re-recorded show was broadcast on 18th December 2019 on Radio 4.
Hancock stands for Parliament and dreams that he has been elected and becomes Prime Minister.

This was one of the most topical shows broadcast as there was a national rail strike taking place at the time the episode was broadcast. In the episode, Sid and Hancock decide to run their own train pulled by the original ‘Rocket’ stolen from the Science Museum. They head to Brighton but only get as far as Battersea.

Hancock can’t afford to buy a television set from the shops so buys a DIY build your own TV kit from Sid. After some help from the 3 year old boy from next door, the set works. But then Hancock’s other neighbour arrives…..

This episode tells the story of old Ebidiah Hancock and his three sons, all of whom are played by Hancock. There’s Rodney (in the Navy), Gideon (a gangster) and Anthony (a doctor).
